Now that we know whom not to target, lets figure out what your unique brand needs to target.

Please avoid the mistake of believing that your ideal customer is just like you (aka shares your wants, needs and desires) This is not always the case. Take a moment and create an honest customer profile with the following characteristics.

Demographic Characteristics (What People Are Like)

  • Age
  • Interests (other than your service)
  • Marital Status
  • Education Level
  • Income Level
  • Occupation
  • Religion

Psychographic Characteristics (What People Like)

  • Personality (forward, optimist, realist, introverted, extroverted, loud, quiet)
  • Values
  • Hobbies
  • Attitudes
  • Interests / desires
    • Example: A teenage girl may be interested makeup, but her desire is to feel beautiful.
    • Example: A person may be interested in becoming wealthy. His desire is to be able to provide for their family no matter what.

Use these characteristics to better plan and get a grasp of who you’re trying to get the attention of.  (aka who you’re spending your marketing dollars to get the attention of ….!)

After you target your market, it would be a good idea to research your competition.
