How to Boost Your AB Testing Effectiveness

AB testing is a marketing strategy used to test the waters of your current audience. Running an AB test will help you gauge which types of keywords are most effective, what imagery your audience likes, and what page layouts are most useful to convert large amounts of leads. Hers are a few changes you can implement make on your online strategy to AB test your target audience.

  1. Add Power Words to H1 and H2 headlines: Interview your past customers on why they decided to make a purchase. Compile this data, and see which phrases repeat. (an example could be words such as “good value” or “friendly service”). Take these keywords and add them to your headlines and body copy. Do an AB test to see your conversion rates before and after adding your power words. Power words are like triggers to your target market to push them to buy.
  2. Add a deadline or countdown: Use a tool called deadlinefunnel to add a countdown until a special sale ends or your shopping cart expires. It is human psychology to complete an action when they have a time limit. Do an AB test to see if implementing a countdown timer increases your conversions.
  3. Add an exit popup: Use the Optinmonster  plugin to target people that are about to leave your site with a special pop up message. That popup message might be a special discount or a link to make a phone call to customer support or sales. Do an AB test to see if this creates more conversions.
  4. Make edits to your checkout page : Split up your single checkout page into 3 pages: an example would be: one page to collect name and email, second page for address and payment, and third page for payment confirmation. It is human psychology to be more likely to complete a task when it is divided into more easily understandable chunks.
  5. Smaller edits to your colors, and photos : While this may not make as much difference as the previous 3 methods, using a different color scheme and photography that may resonate with your target audience more. For example, maybe an image of someone using your product instead of the product sitting by itself may help a person understand how it functions, thereby creating someone more likely to purchase.

Refining your marketing strategy using AB testing will only help increase conversions and creating a more streamlined customer journey.
